As a minimalist, I am constantly paring down my stuff to the things that I absolutely need and things that add beauty and joy to my life. After three years of having my wonderful HP laptop, I decided that it was time for a better one. One with power but also a small waistline. I wanted an ultra-thin laptop that wouldn’t take up too much space, but would also be powerful enough to support my programs and software needed to be a web developer.
Doing a search on laptops, I came across Lenovo’s Yoga 3 Pro and fell in love. Here are some laptops worth looking at if you’re a busy person on the go who would benefit from a lightweight, but powerful laptop.
Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro
Being super thin (it’s only 0.5” thick), the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is still powerful enough to surf the web quickly, develop websites, edit videos and design in Adobe Creative Cloud without bogging down. If that wasn’t impressive, it also has a touchscreen, and it is a 2-in-1 computer which means it can convert into a tablet. This is really useful to a web developer who has to test how websites respond to touch.
Dell XPS 13
Another ultrabook is the Dell XPS 13. It is a really lightweight laptop weighing at 2.8lbs. Like the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, it also has a touchscreen, but don’t try to fold it back 360 degrees because this laptop is not part tablet. But, it is super powerful and utilizes plenty of screen space by making the screen 80% of the monitor.
ASUS Zenbook UX305
Here’s another half inch laptop for you that is also easy on the wallet. Don’t expect a nice sound or nice camera, but for less than $700 you can have a very lightweight and powerful ultrabook that also has a pretty design. Weighing in at 2.6lbs, this laptop is very nice for someone on the go. It even gives you 9 hours of battery life. Now, that’s a bargain!
Toshiba Chromebook 2
Chromebooks are super fast if your computer needs can be found strictly on the internet and within apps. Since Chromebooks cannot download software, they are super quick without all that bloat. The Tobisha Chromebook 2, however, is a great lightweight laptop weighing in at 3lbs and less then an inch thick. And since it’s powered by Google, you get all your favorite Google products in one place with easy access.
Being a Windows lover, I would be bias if I didn’t mention the Macbook Air on a list of lightweight computers since it did set the industry standards for ultra-thin laptops. The Macbook Air has great graphics as Apple products are known for and it’s extremely portable being 2.38lbs and only 0.68” thick.
Overall, I’m loving my new Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. It fits in my tiny backpack, it’s beautiful and it’s perfect for testing out websites when I develop them. I’m also glad that I get to travel lighter without having to lug an extra case for my previous bulky laptop. So, if you’re always on the go and are looking to travel lighter, and if you’re sick of lugging around a heavy laptop for the sake of performance, try looking into lightweight laptops that also have a lot of power to them.
Do you have a thin laptop? Do you like it?
