25: Nicole Holland of The Business Building Rockstars Show on Podcasting in Your Business

Podcaster, Master Coach, and Marketing Strategist all rolled up into one purple-haired powerhouse, Nicole Holland is known as the secret weapon that smart CEOs and successful business owners turn to, to grow their business exponentially through Podcast Guesting. Proud to have been named in the Huffington Post as one of “50 Must-Follow Women Entrepreneurs in 2017” alongside female business leaders like Marie Forleo, Danielle LaPorte, Amy Porterfield, and Dorie Clark, Nicole is all about recognizing and empowering today’s emerging leaders to get known now!

1:30 Nicole began podcasting in 2015 after a friend and mentor suggested to her that the medium was a great way to connect with clients instead of using the more traditional summit model.

3:40 Over those last two years podcasting has become the central part of Nicole’s business.  That came about after she realized the power of podcasting to connect with large numbers of clients at once instead of one-on-one coaching.  The uptake from the audience has been huge and completely organic, requiring little to no promotion.

7:45 The hardest part of the business for Nicole has been keeping up with the explosive growth.  She has had to adjust to the fact that there are some things that she isn’t able to do.

11:10 The Building Business Rockstar Show was born of Nicole’s nonconformist nature.  Her wild, always changing hairstyles are emblematic of her personality and company.  Nicole had previously worked as a correctional officer and later for the government, both jobs left her feeling unsatisfied.  Even when she began building an online business she was still operating in a very conventional way.  She began to succeed when she started building the business around her real personality.

17:15 There are two sides to podcasting – hosting and guesting.  Hosting a podcast is not something that will yield instant results.  People don’t understand how hard it is to build an audience.  If you build it they won’t necessarily come.  You have to find your audience.  It’s a great way to build a platform but it is a big commitment.

21:07 Most people who guest on podcasts take a “cheap date” approach.  You have to be much more judicious in selecting which podcasts to appear on.  You have to have a real relationship with the show you’re appearing on – otherwise it’s not a genuine interaction.

26:23 When hosts are actively seeking guests it likely mean they don’t have much of an audience.  Nicole recommends listening to her Get Guest Ready podcast to learn more about how to get your brand on the right shows.

30:15 Before you start a podcast you have to have a clear idea about who your ideal audience is.  You also can’t worry about pleasing everyone.  You have to please yourself first.
